NUFC flop seals Premier League return alongside former Mag – but both could be released

After sealing surprise January moves to Watford, former Newcastle duo Achraf Lazaar and Rob Elliot are now on their way back to the Premier League – but for how long…

The Hornets’ return to the top flight was confirmed over the weekend, however both players could be without a club by the time the new 2021/22 season kicks off.

As things stand, the ex-NUFC pair will see their contracts expire this summer, with them only signing six-month deals at Vicarage Road earlier this year.

Lazaar has made just one start for Watford and dropped a clanger when he did, with his awful back-pass leading to a penalty that handed Luton a 1-0 just last weekend.

As for Elliot, the 34-year-old goalkeeper has failed to make a single appearance since arriving at the club – being left out of their matchday squad on several occasions and finding himself behind Ben Foster AND Daniel Bachmann in the pecking order.

Lazaar has been on the end of some pretty savage criticism on social media, with many Watford fans slating his cameos from the bench and his one and only start, but it didn’t stop him being front and centre of the celebrations when promotion was confirmed on Saturday!
