NUFC set to launch £8m bid – Player eager to sign despite AC Milan & Norwich interest – Report

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are in pole position to sign Kristoffer Ajer and look set to submit an £8m bid for the Celtic centre-back.

Simon Jones’ piece states that the defender has received recent interest from Norwich and AC Milan, however he’s believed to favour a move to St James’ Park – seeing the switch as the ‘ideal next step up in his career’.

The 23-year old Norwegian has just a year left on his current contract and Celtic could be forced to offload him in a cut-price deal or risk losing him for nothing next summer.

It’s claimed the SPL giants recently valued him at £25m, however The Herald reported yesterday that they’d reluctantly cash in if an offer of around £12m arrived.

Ajer – an imposing six-foot-six inch centre back – has played 170 times for the Glasgow side since his arrival in 2016 despite his career still being in its infancy.

He has been dubbed “the next van Dijk” by some in Scotland, with him a big ball playing defender who also possesses a decent turn of pace for his size.

If he can go on to have half the career Van Dijk has had since leaving Celtic, we might be onto a winner should Ajer end up on Tyneside this summer!

  1. Most clubs would just cough up if they wanted a player!
    Not our penny pinching lot!
As I have said before Ashley wants things on the cheap or a loan and in order that we miss out he has his prize idiot doing the negotiations in Lee Charnley to ensure this happens.
