Bruce speaks out on £20m transfer claims, Saint-Maximin’s future & summer spending

Steve Bruce has insisted that the “last thing” the club want to do this summer is sell star man Allan Saint-Maximin – even if interest in the Frenchman is inevitable.

The NUFC boss has also revealed his bemusement at talk of a £20m asking price for Joe Willock, stating we are yet to hold talks with Arsenal and don’t even know if he will be available or not this summer.

As for transfer funds, which are expected to be limited this summer, Bruce claims he will be knocking on Mike Ashley’s door in a bid to get as much to spend as possible ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Here’s what he’s had to say on all of the above when speaking to the press earlier today:

Bruce on Allan Saint-Maximin:

“The last thing we want to be doing is selling our best players.”

“I have no doubt he will attract interest because you only have to watch him once and realise that he’s a really gifted, talented footballer…

“He scored a goal in training the other day which was just remarkable. It’s a pity we haven’t got footage of it!.”

Bruce on Joe Willock:

“He doesn’t like being called that (super sub) by the way…

“If we can get him for next year, he won’t be a super sub, he’ll be playing.

“I’m pleased for Joe, he has the football world talking about him. We’d love to keep him if we can.”

‘I don’t know where the £20m (price tag) has come from.

“We have to have a conversation with Arsenal.

“We don’t even know if he’s available, but I do know that Joe’s enjoyed it here.”

Bruce on summer transfer budget:

“It’s my job to batter the door down and get as much as I can.”
