According to reports in Scotland, Newcastle scouts were spotted taking a closer look at summer target Kristoffer Ajer during Sunday’s Old Firm clash at Ibrox.
This comes via an ‘exclusive’ from the Scottish Sun, who claim the club are ‘ready to push the button’ on a summer move for the giant centre-back – despite him struggling in a 4-1 beating by the SPL champions.
Andy Devlin’s piece also states that Steve Bruce is eager to see us complete a deal, with Norwich also said to be keen on the 6f 6′ Norwegian.
Ajer is approaching the final 12 months of his deal with the Hoops, meaning they look set to cash in on the 23-year-old at a cut-price fee this summer.
The Herald reported last week that they’d sell for a fee in the region of £12m this summer, however the Scottish Sun suggest it may only take £8m to prise him away from Parkhead.
We’re approaching silly season and have seen a host of players linked in recent weeks, but there’s no smoke without fire and it seems clear Ajer is someone we are taking a serious look at.
The Daily Mail have claimed that we’re set to make an £8m bid, even stating that the player himself is eager to sign at St James’ Park – despite alleged interest from AC Milan.
A ball playing defender who is dominant in the air, no slouch for his size and very capable of carrying the ball out of defence. If he’s anything like the last big centre-back to swap Celtic for the Premier League, he could be some signing!
