Crazy day in the Championship for 7 ex-Mags – Relegations, new records, hat-tricks & a trophy

It’s been one hell of a day in the Championship, with all 24 clubs playing their 46th and final game of the 2020/21 season.

With the relegation battle going down to the wire, records to be broken and the play-off spots yet to be decided, it was an eventful day for SEVEN former Mags:

Ivan Toney – Scored his 31st goal of the season in Brentford’s 3-1 win at Bristol City, setting a new record for a single campaign in the second tier! Whether he helps the Bees to promotion via the play-offs or not, he’ll surely be playing Premier League football next season.

Dan Barlaser – The recently released Mag and Gateshead-born midfielder looked set to stay up with Rotherham at Derby and Sheffield Wednesday’s expense, only for a late Cardiff goal to send his new side back to League One.

Adam Armstrong – Bagged his second hat-trick in his last three games and his THIRD treble of the season in Blackburn’s 5-2 win over Birmingham on the final day. Leaves him on 28 goals for 2020/21, making him the Championship’s second top scorer behind Ivan Toney.

Tim Krul & Grant Hanley – After a 2-2 draw at 5th place Barnsley, the former NUFC stopper and Scottish centre-back signed by Benitez were crowned Champions at Oakwell. The result sees them end the season on an outstanding 97 points!

Achraf Lazaar – Played the full 90 minutes against Freddie Woodman’s 4th place Swansea and helped Watford to a clean sheet. His first full game for the Hornets and a result that sees them end the season on 91 points, joining Norwich in immediately bouncing back to the big time.

Jonathan Woodgate – The Bournemouth manager started the day expecting to play Swansea in the play-off semi final in a few weeks time, but a surprise home defeat to Stoke means they will now play 3rd place Brentford in the two-legged affair – a side who did the double on the Cherries this season!
