Fellow Norwegian and former Celtic centre-back believes Kristoffer Ajer will end up signing for Newcastle United this summer.
The 6ft 6′ defender has been regularly linked over the past few months, with the Daily Mail reporting that an £8m bid is imminent after club scouts were spotted watching him in a 4-1 defeat to Rangers last weekend.
Riseth, who played over 50 games for the Hoops, admits to having several conversations with the big centre-back and is backing him to seal a move to St James’ Park should he decide to decide to leave Celtic.
Speaking to the Daily Record, here’s what he had to say:
“I think he’ll end up at Newcastle if he wants to leave,”
“I’ve spoken with him many times and he likes Celtic.
“I also know the club is working to keep him.
“But if he is going to leave I would imagine it would be to Newcastle.”
Does he have inside knowledge after speaking to Ajer? Or is this merely a prediction from a man who knows the 23-year-old much better than most?
Only time will tell, but it seems he is towards the top of our list when it comes to our hunt for a new centre-back this summer.
Definitely one to watch over the comings months.
