Club make double announcement – Unique pre-season plans & NUFC duo spotted back at Benton

Newcastle United have announced TWO pre-season friendlies set to take place this summer – and offered some good news on the injury front for Isaac Hayden and Ryan Fraser.

In a unique move, NUFC reveal that Steve Bruce will split his squad to play TWO separate friendlies on Sunday the 18th of July, with one half set to face National League side York City at the new LNER Community Stadium and the other taking on League Two side Harrogate Town.

The York friendly – which will see us take on former Mag Steve Watson – is due to kick off at 2pm, while no time or venue has been revealed as of yet for our clash with Harrogate.

Elsewhere, Newcastle have confirmed that both Isaac Hayden and Ryan Fraser have returned to light training – despite suggesting recently that neither would play again this season.

It’s a nice surprise to see both back in action – even if neither do play again this season – with Hayden missing since falling horribly in March’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton and forgotten man Fraser back sooner than expected after groin surgery.

With our attacking options blunted by Wilson’s injury and some winnable games coming up against Sheffield United and Fulham, it would be nice to see Fraser end what has been a poor first season at St James’ Park on a high.

Either way, it’s good to see both back sooner than expected and us stepping up our preparations for 2021/22 – albeit via two games on the same day against lower league sides!
