Surprise Joe Willock claims arrive from Arsenal legend Ian Wright – Let’s hope he’s right…

Ian Wright does not believe Joe Willock will be given the chance to impress at Arsenal next season – suggesting Newcastle WILL be handed the opportunity to sign the midfield goal-machine this summer.

The Arsenal legend, who bagged 185 times for The Gunners, thinks young players are being stifled at the club and that Willock may be better off elsewhere.

Our January loan signing has impressed in his short stint here, scoring six goals and putting in some energetic displays in midfield.

Supporters are calling on him to be re-signed in the summer, whether that be on loan or for the £20-£30m fee required to bring him back on a permanent deal.

Here is what Wright said to Premier League Productions:

“You say who’s vulnerable, you look at Torreira and Guendouzi, Joe Willock is doing very well at Newcastle.

‘I don’t think we should be signing Ceballos on a permanent deal, I just don’t think he’s what we need now.

“You look at it and you think to yourself, those players, every one of them should be where he is.

“I think that we’ve got young players coming through who should get an opportunity in front of Ceballos.”

“I’d like to see Joe Willock get an opportunity but I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Another loan move will be within the interests of both clubs, with Willock’s value skyrocketing every time he pulls on a black-and-white shirt. That said, I’m not sure we fancy falling in love with him for another season, only to see him leave at the end of 2021/22!

Some Toon fans are sceptical of the “Kenedy effect”; the Chelsea man looked electric in his first loan spell here but quickly faded in his second.

However, Willock certainly looks the part from what we have seen so far, and bringing him back to St James’ Park needs to be a priority – with or with a takeover.

  1. the “Kenedy effect”?
    Who makes this garbage up?
Kenedy was another Ben Arfa – hugely talented but temperamental.

Willock is not that “kind” of player

As for a loan suiting both clubs – you mean us!

Arsenal will want to either keep him and play him, or sell him and use the money towards more talent. Loaning him out to us again gives them nothing. He has shown how much he’s worth – another loan is not going to increase that value.

They’ll want 30 million for him, or they might take ASM as a swap.

  2. Arsenal has no midfielder currently playing at willock’s level. Yet almost every fan think he should be sold?

Don’t we need the goals? To win, we need to start thinking like a winner.

It’s obvious he’s just referring to the fact the former was great for one season then poor the next, something we wouldn’t want to see happen with Willock (and something he doesn’t see happening if you read the next line..)
