Dubious ‘exclusive’ claims £13m double deal could be on the cards between Newcastle & Leeds

According to Football Insider, Newcastle have been showing interest in a deal to bring Leeds United’s Tyler Roberts to St James’ Park this summer.

They report that the versatile forward – who can play up top, out wide or just behind the striker – has a £10m asking price on his head and could be moved on as he enters the final 12 months of his contract at Elland Road.

That’s not the only Leeds ‘exclusive’ that’s emerged from Football Insider, however, with them also claiming that Marcelo Bielsa is keen to see Jacob Murphy head in the other direction.

I wouldn’t be surprise if we are looking at Roberts – he’s only 22, is slipping down the Leeds pecking order, is very versatile and could be available at a cut-price fee. What I’m really struggling with here though is this idea Murphy might be on his way out.

He’s at his boyhood club, finally playing week in week out and in the best form of his life after seeing his hard work pay off. A new contract has been described as imminent, too, so I don’t see a world where he leaves this summer – especially not for the £3m fee Football Insider are suggesting.

Stranger things have happened, but I can see the likes of Carroll, Gayle and Schar being moved on over the coming months, not Murphy.

  1. No thank you. Roberts has been more of a midfielder for Leeds than a forward & whilst he’s done ok, he’s not pulled up any trees like – and they can whistle if they want Murphy. He’s our new star RWB – gan get his brother!!

  2. No thanks. He’s the disappointing one next to Harrison, Raphinha and Bamford. Very much like getting Lewis instead of Aarons, Cantwell or Buendia. And Murphy looks better every game.
