Interesting comments from Swansea fans as Freddie Woodman moves step closer to Premier League

Freddie Woodman’s latest loan spell away from Newcastle United is going from strength to strength.

Not only was he awarded the Championship’s golden glove award last week for keeping 20 clean sheets on Swansea’s way to a 4th place finish, he stepped up last night with a top class performance in their play-off semi final clash with Barnsley.

He made a string of key saves, commanded his goal and was quick off his line on several occasions to help his loan side secure a 1-0 win at Oakwell in their first-leg clash with Barnsley.

With Swansea now just a few games away from sealing a return to the Premier League, we’ve taken a look at what their fans have had to say about Woodman’s superb display and future prospects.

Here’s what we found last night from Planet Swans and Swansea fans on Twitter:

Freddie Woodman outstanding tonight but has been all season. I’ll say it now, this kid is top draw he will be competing for England jersey in couple of years …unreal prospect ….handling sweeping ,saves and time wasting top draw tonight!

A big if, but if we get promoted we should go all out to sign Woodman on a permanent deal. Not sure I could cope with another loan knowing he’s only being built up for Newcastle!

Freddie couldn’t have picked a better time for that performance really, in terms of being watched by other teams. If he doesn’t stay at NUFC next season and compete for Dubravka’s spot, I reckon he’ll get a move to a bigger club than Swansea, sadly.

He is definitely the best shop stopper in the Championship. His aerial presence, judgment and passing leaves a lot to be desired but he was immense tonight.

I think he’s aiming for PL football, he’s got to compete with 2 goalkeepers at Newcastle, so either he stays and fights for his place, or he moves to a team to develop his career in the big league

Freddie Woodman has saved Swansea from being in a a fair bit or trouble for that second leg. Seems to be a recurring thing throughout the season. Wonder where we’d have been without him!

Freddie Woodman. I love you. Lifetime contract. Please never leave x

I’ve defended Woodman all along, we need to sign him permanently if we ever get the chance.

Can see Freddie Woodman and Matt Grimes playing for England in the coming years

It’s amazing to see how these loan players come and care so much about the team!! Freddie loves us.

Great performance tonight from Freddie – Manuel Neueresque!

That one was for the Woodman haters!!!

Promotion will be amazing if we can do it, but I’ll be gutted if Woodman isn’t part of our first season back. Fear Newcastle are going to keep him and play him.

It’s great to see Woodman doing so well, gaining invaluable experience in high pressure situations at Swansea, but his form does give us a huge decision to make this summer.

Do we sell Darlow, bring Woodman into the first-team fold and let him compete with Dubravka? Do we send him out for another season long-loan – ideally to Swansea if they seal promotion? Or, do we cash in and stick with Dubravka, with any potential sale able to boost Bruce’s limited summer budget.

The latter would be a silly move and one we’d soon live to regret, however I don’t see him getting enough minutes next season to justify keeping him on Tyneside.

In an ideal world, we’d loan him out to a newly-promoted Swansea and THEN hand him his first-team chance if he passed the Premier League test next season.
