The Athletic name four CB’s on NUFC’s radar – Chelsea loanee, 6ft 5′ giant, ex-Ajax talent & relegated star

With the season coming to an end and this summer’s transfer window fast approaching, we’re starting to see a whole host of names linked with possible summer moves to St James’ Park.

Looking back through The Athletic’s latest pieces, they have named FOUR centre-backs Newcastle United have been looking at – Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer, Chelsea’s Marc Guehi’s, Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo and Vitesse star Danilho Doekhi.

With our back line ageing, lacking in pace and featuring a few players almost out of contract, it looks like the signing of a centre-back or two could be high on our priority list.

Starting with Ajer, he’s been linked with a move to Tyneside more than any other player since the turn of the year, with it reported last month that we’re planning an £8m bid after a number of scouting trips.

Chris Waugh reports that he is someone head of recruitment Steve Nickson has watched closely, as is Vitesse Arnhem’s Danilho Doekhi – a 6ft 3′ Dutch youth international and ex-Ajax talent enjoying an outstanding season in the Eredivisie.

Elsewhere, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has also confirmed we are one of several Premier League clubs showing interest in a potential loan move for Chelsea’s Marc Guehi – the 20-year-old defender enjoying an impressive spell at Swansea.

Last but not least, Ornstein’s colleague Peter Rutzler reckons both ourselves and Arsenal are eyeing Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo.

The 6ft 5′ talent was linked with a move to Tyneside during his time at Man City and is believed to have a relegation release clause in his contract – meaning he might just be available at a cut-price fee this summer.
