Big claims from Germany – Newcastle lining up surprise move for Borussia Dortmund saviour?

According to some surprise reports emerging from Germany, Newcastle are now showing interest in Borussia Dortmund’s interim manager boss Edin Terzic.

This comes from BILD, who claim that ourselves, Crystal Palace and Spurs are eyeing up the 38-year-old who has been in charge of the Bundesliga giants since Lucien Favre was sacked in December.

Since then he’s not only guided them to a 3rd place finish – sealed by a final day win over Leverkusen this afternoon – but also delivered their first trophy since 2017 after beating RB Leipzig 4-1 in the DFB-Pokal final last week. Some going considering they were 5th and seven points away from the top 4 when he got the job.

That said, today’s win will be his last game in charge, as Marco Rose has already been confirmed as Dortmund’s new head coach for 2021/22.

BILD – who claimed earlier this week that we were close to re-signing Jetro Willems – state that we are intrigued by the impact German managers Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel have had in England and are considering a move for Terzic – a former West Ham assistant who speaks fluent English.

It’s best to take this one with a pinch of salt, even if recent reports from Luke Edwards – a friend of Bruce’s and writer for The Telegraph – has suggested the NUFC boss could yet walk away if St James’ Park boos become a regular thing he has to contend with following the return of fans.

He may well be eyeing up a move to the Premier League after rejecting Frankfurt and working wonders with Dortmund, but I’d be shocked if Ashley sacked Bruce this summer after a recent upturn in form has seen us survive comfortably.

After all, a manager who gets us anywhere above 18th is good enough for Ashley, making a move for the highly-rated and in-demand Terzic seems very unlike him.

  1. We take everything that is reported by you journalists with a pinch of salt because you make up some absolute drivel.

  2. I’d sooner have Favre – but that’s easy to say when I know we’ll get neither
