In his latest NUFC Notebook pieces for The Chronicle, Mark Douglas has shared a few intriguing bits of transfer murmurings.
He claims that Newcastle believe Joe Willock wants to re-sign this summer, claims Southampton have joined Arsenal in eyeing up a move for Freddie Woodman and that we have been showing interest in a summer loan deal for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
Starting with Willock, Douglas states that the 21-year-old sees Newcastle a the ‘perfect platform’ to gain him regular first-team football – with it understood that Steve Bruce would look to build a team around the England U21 star should he secure a permanent move from Arsenal.
His piece also highlights that it’s ‘widely believed’ that Arteta’s comments on Friday was all part of the transfer game in a bid to get the best price they can and keep their options open – believing his future will be a summer-long saga and nowhere near as cut and dry as the Spaniard made out.
As for Woodman, it’s not surprise he’s receiving interest after not only landing the Golden Glove award for the most Championship clean sheets in 2020/21, but also shining in the play-off semi-finals to send Swansea to Wembley.
Douglas states that Newcastle recognise they have a ‘huge decision’ to make on his future this summer.
It’s said that he’d be open to another loan move – another year at Swansea would be ideal if they’re promoted – but he would NOT stay at Newcastle next season to sit on the bench behind Martin Dubravka.
Last but not least, Douglas reveals that we showing early interest in a loan deal for Conor Gallagher – the Chelsea midfielder who stood out during a spell at West Brom this season.
He was actually linked with a move to Tyneside last summer before eventually ending up at the Hawthorns, and The Chronicle claim Bruce has his eye on him and the signing of another striker as we prepare to release Andy Carroll.
