Alan Shearer slated after releasing dodgy Premier League Team of the Season – ‘Big six’ bias?

Alan Shearer has released his Premier League Team of the Season for 2020/21 – and to say it’s not gone down well with fans on social media is an understatement!

Goalkeeper aside, which is quite rightfully Aston Villa star Emi Martinez, supporters have picked up on the fact there’s not one player selected outside the self-proclaimed ‘big six’.

Considering the outstanding seasons the likes of West Ham and Leeds have enjoyed, some have questioned how he’s left out the likes of Vladimir Coufal, Tomas Soucek, Stuart Dallas and Patrick Bamford, with a similar trend featuring in his decision to pick Guardiola over Moyes – despite the Hammers boss taking his side from relegation contenders to narrowly missing out on a top four finish.

Here’s his team in full:

Leicester City fans are also baffled to see Youri Tielemans miss out, with Shearer going for De Bruyne instead – despite the fact he’s missed large chunks of the season through injury.

It’s a game of opinions, however it is a tedious theme that pundits seem to focus on players from Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal (well..not so much this season!) and easily forget the incredible performances we’ve seen from players in the ‘other 14’.

Leaving out Spurs star Son has also been criticised heavily in the comments, with the South Korean scoring as many goals in 2020/21 as Phil Foden has started under Guardiola this season!

Do you feel Big Al’s side is biased towards the ‘big six’ or bang on the money? Let us know what starting 11 and manager you would’ve picked!

  1. Anyone who is criticising his choices needs to get a grip. He picked the top 2 scorers of the season. He best the best goalie. Other than that he picked from the teams that finished 1st and 2nd. Of course those 2 teams had the best players, that’s why they finished where they did.
