The Daily Mail have revealed FOUR players Steve Bruce is hoping to sign this summer – although it seems his reported transfer budget will have to be increased significantly if he’s to sign his top targets.
Simon Jones’ latest piece states that the NUFC boss not only wants to re-sign Arsenal loanee Joe Willock, but has also rekindled his interest in Hamza Choudhury.
The Leicester midfielder looked all set to arrive on loan in January until a deadline day move fell through, however The Mail report that he’s now available as Brendan Rodgers looks set to sign a replacement in former Toon target Boubacaray Soumare.
Elsewhere, the report states that we are ‘advancing’ in our efforts to bring Celtic centre-back Kristoffer Ajer to the club after informing the SPL giants we’d be willing to pay £8m for the 6ft 5′ Norway international.
Another name mentioned is Wigan Athletic star Kyle Joseph, with Jones stating that we have been in discussions over a deal for the 19-year-old striker who represents Scotland at U21 level.
So, four targets revealed and all of them names we’ve seen linked with a move to Tyneside over the past six months, however the same report states that Bruce currently has just £12m, plus player sales, to play with.
Keeping this alleged summer wish-list in mind, it’s easy to see why he’s pleading with Mike Ashley to release more funds.
Player sales may add to his transfer kitty and we could look to sell the likes of Gayle, Darlow, Muto and Lejeune – as well as release Carroll, Saivet and Atsu from the wage bill – however the last thing we want to see is Bruce being forced to sell one of his star men in Allan Saint-Maximin to boost his summer budget.
