Ex-Mag confirms Champions League offer – Newcastle ‘interested’ & he just might be, too…

Ex-Mag Andros Townsend has confirmed he’s already receive a couple of summer offers – one of which being from an unnamed side set to compete in the Champions League group stages.

Speaking on talkSPORT today, the 29-year-old has revealed that Crystal Palace are keen to keep him at Selhurst Park, however it looks increasingly likely he will leave the club next month.

The winger enjoyed an impressive spell at St James’ Park over the second half of 2015/16, although his four goals and two assists in his final 10 starts on Tyneside weren’t enough to keep us in the division and he left for Crystal Palace.

Fast forward a few years and The Chronicle have confirmed he is someone we are interested in signing on a free this summer.

Keeping in mind Bruce’s limited budget and Townsend’s previous comments about wanting to stay at the club “for a few years”, this feels like one to watch?

Here’s what he had to say after reluctantly leaving after relegation, followed by his comments on the offers he’s received ahead of the 2021/22 season:

“I was at Tottenham and I’ve had all the loan spells and then I went to Newcastle and said ‘I want to stay here for a few years’ but unfortunately that didn’t work out and I had to move to stay in the Premier League.”

“Everything was so positive (at Newcastle).”

“It’s just the one negative that we (Newcastle) didn’t stay in the Premier League.”

Towsend on summer offers:

“I have had a couple of offers already on the table.

“I am really chilled out and I am excited to see what else comes in and then really sit down and decide which one’s the best for me at this time in my career.

“The offers I have had so far are abroad.

“One offer in particular is offering me Champions League group stage. Very tempting.

“This is why I want to see what else comes in and then make a decision.”

Would you bring him back?
