NUFC submit double loan enquiry for Premier League striker & 19-year-old wonderkid – Report

Newcastle have contacted Chelsea to sound out potential loan moves for Tammy Abraham and Billy Gilmour, according to the Northern Echo.

The report states that Steve Bruce is a huge fan of Abraham – a player who scored 26 goals under the NUFC boss during a loan spell at Aston Villa – and also rates midfield sensation Billy Gilmour highly.

Chelsea are said to have slapped a £40m asking price on Abraham’s header this summer, with him totally out of Tuchel’s plans and pushing for a move, however The Echo believe that price has been baulked at by West Ham, Aston Villa, Wolves and ourselves.

As a result, they claim we are trying to position ourselves at the front of the queue should Chelsea find no buyers and be forced to loan him out instead – believing their stance could change on that front if they don’t seriously reduce their asking price.

Elsewhere, it’s said we are hoping to use Joe Willock’s sensational loan move to tempt the Blues into sending Billy Gilmour to St James’ Park for a season.

The 19-year-old is rated as one of the best teenage talents in the Premier League, with the deep-lying playmakers called up to Scotland’s squad for Euro 2020 and praised by Chelsea fans for his energy, composure and quality on the ball.

It’s worth noting that we wouldn’t be able to sign both on loan – you can only have one player from a single club sign until the end of the season – however a temporary move for either would be very good business.

For me, Abraham is highly unlikely (albeit worth pursuing) due to the number of clubs who’d swoop in should he become available on loan along with his wage demands, but Gilmour could be one to watch and someone who could see Newcastle as the perfect next step in his development – especially when we’re not far from Scotland and gave Willock the platform the impress in the Premier League.
