Steve Bruce has praised the quality of our attacking options, but suggests we must “build” on that in other areas of the pitch as he hopes to enjoy a “fruitful summer” in the transfer market.
An injury crisis struck our squad earlier in the year when big hitters Allan Saint-Maximin, Miggy Almiron and Callum Wilson all endured lengthy spells on the sidelines.
However, we strung together a series of impressive results across the run-in once that trio returned, finishing a huge 17 points above 17th-placed Fulham in the end.
Fans are clamouring for Arsenal loanee Joe Willock to return, whose goals dragged us to safety during his impressive loan spell, and it seems like we may be targeting players in midfield and defence based on Bruce’s latest comments.
Here’s what the NUFC boss has had to say when asked about his transfer plans:
“We know we have the makings of a half-decent team.
“When everybody is fit at the top end of the pitch, including Joe Willock, and Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin, we have plenty going forward.
“So let’s build on that and hope we can have a fruitful summer to strengthen.”
According to reports, Toon fans should expect Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer to be our first summer signing for around £6million.
The 6”6 centre half is heavily linked with a move to Tyneside and could prove to be the defensive reinforcement Bruce is hinting towards.
Supporters remain adamant that a central midfielder and a backup striker to Wilson should be top of the shopping list for us in the close season, but funds are rumoured to be tight.

The “hint” that you missed is the one where Brucie said “when everybody is fit at the top end of the pitch, including Joe Willock, and Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin, we have plenty going forward.”
so this summer he is building on a team with JOE WILLOCK in it?
Or was that a typo, was it supposed to be Callum Wilson?
What was definitely a typo was where you said Fulham finished in 17th. As they were relegated I would have thought they finished in 18th place or lower.
