NUFC flop with ‘£17m release clause’ could now replace another ex-Mag in surprise summer move

Former Newcastle United striker Joselu could be in line for a shock move to La Liga giants Sevilla this summer.

The Spaniard – who was sold to Alaves for just £2.5million in 2019 – has impressed this season and scored 11 goals for the club in a campaign that saw him play alongside NUFC loanee Florian Lejeune.

His physical style of play makes him a handful in La Liga, and MARCA – one o the leading outlets in Spain – are now reporting that Sevilla are in talks to sign him – also revealing that he has a £17m release clause in his current deal.

That figure will sound alien to Toon supporters who had to endure two years of terrible performances from Joselu, who bagged just 7 in 52 while plying his trade on Tyneside.

To make matters even more ironic, MARCA state that he’s been targeted to replace non other than Luuk de Jong; another Toon flop who endured one of the most forgettable loan spells at St James’ Park we’ve ever seen – and there’s been plenty of those!

The Dutchman is reportedly eyeing up a move to his homeland with boyhood club PSV Eindhoven his preferred destination.

As for Joselu, it’s good to see the hard-working Spaniard doing well for himself in Spain, with this now being two seasons on the spin that he’s got into double figures!

  1. Maybe coz in Spain Joselu has been played as an attacking forward where Rafa played him as a defensive forward.
