The Athletic name 14 summer targets, 6 who could be sold to boost budget & 2 set for loan moves

An in-depth piece on the transfer front has emerged from The Athletic’s Chris Waugh, sharing some intriguing details as we head into this summer’s trading period.

It makes reference to some of Bruce’s budget battles – it seems he’ll have to sell a few to boost his ‘extremely modest’ spending pot – but does state that our jump up to 12th on the final day should work in his favour now we’ll be due a greater share of merit-based Premier League prize money.

The Athletic also revealed 14 players believed to be on our shortlist of potential arrivals, also naming a few who could be sold to fund extra incomings, as well as two who look likely to be loaned out in Elliot Anderson and Matty Longstaff.

Here’s the ‘players of interest’ noted in the piece, which

  • Joe Willock (Arsenal)
  • Hamza Choudhury (Leicester)
  • Ross Barkley (Chelsea)
  • Conor Gallagher (Chelsea)
  • Olivier Ntcham (Celtic
  • Lewis O’Brien (Huddersfield)
  • Kristoffer Ajer (Celtic)
  • Tosin Adarabioyo (Fulham)
  • Danilho Doekhi (Vitesse)
  • Cameron Carter-Vickers (Tottenham)
  • Rob Dickie (QPR)
  • Ozan Kabak (Schalke)
  • Tammy Abraham (Chelsea)
  • Adam Armstrong (Blackburn)

Interestingly, Waugh also highlighted that we are considering another loan bid for Willock – only this time one that includes an option or obligation to buy the 21-year-old.

The following players were then noted as players who could leave:

  • Dwight Gayle
  • Florian Lejeune
  • Karl Darlow
  • Freddie Woodman
  • Matt Ritchie
  • Allan Saint-Maximin (unlikely – unless someone pays ‘over £50m’)
  • Elliot Anderson (loan)
  • Matty Longstaff (loan)

One player who isn’t mentioned is Yoshinori Muto. He will almost definitely be up for sale, but we may struggle to sell him based on his pretty awful loan spell in Spain and reported wage packet of £50,000 per week!

  1. I can’t believe Karl Darlow would be allowed to leave the club, he is a brilliant goalkeeper and can only get better. I would keep Matt Ritchie, get rid of Hendricks and the other Ritchie coz they are ****. Start playing our young promising players, you don’t improve bysitting in the reserves.it has always been the trouble at the club, they never give the young players a chance. After some of the performances of senior players last season, who should hang their heads in shame . Would it really hurt. Bruce out he’s ****.
