Newcastle ‘in talks’ to sign €10m Ligue 1 star – Southampton & Leeds also keen – L’Equipe

According to L’Equipe, Newcastle are in the middle of a three-way battle to sign Brest star Romain Perraud.

The French paper claim that ourselves, Southampton and Leeds have all held talks over a summer move for the 23-year-old left-back.

L’Equipe report that Perraud ‘will be joining a Premier League club this summer’ after being one of the standout players in his position across the 2020/21 Ligue 1 season.

They also state that he will command a fee of ‘at least €10m’ and suggest that Southampton appears to be his most likely destination as things stand – although it seems ourselves and Leeds have also been in touch with his representatives.

The former OGC Nice talent and France youth international has bagged three goals and seven assists over the past season, helping his club stay up by just a sing

Given the limited budget at Bruce’s disposal and the fact a left-back will be low down our priority list this summer, this feels like a deal we’re likely to ‘miss out’ on.

Just incase Perraud is a player that ends up at St James’ Park this summer, here’s a glimpse of him in action:
