NUFC now eyeing double deal with Arsenal as Kristoffer Ajer move is thrown into doubt – Report

According to The Mail, Newcastle are now looking to bring Arsenal centre-back William Saliba to St James’ Park this summer.

The report states that we are waiting to hear if Mikel Arteta will sanction a loan move for the Frenchman, with him recently returning to North London following an impressive spell with OGC Nice.

Simon Jones states that we are eager to have the 20-year-old for the 2021/22 season and are also pursuing a permanent move for Joe Willock – but are also being made to wait on the midfielder’s future.

The bad news, however, is that The Mail claim that our interest in Saliba has stepped up as a move for alleged top target Kristoffer Ajer is now ‘unlikely’.

It was reported recently that we had stepped up our pursuit of the 6ft 5′ Norwegian and were closing in on a £6m move for the Celtic star, but Jones states that the deal is now in doubt.

Norwich City are also believed to be keen, while it was reported in the last few days that Bayern Levekusen had joined the race to sign the 23-year-old defender.

As for Saliba and Willock, it may be that Arteta decides to give both a chance next season – although he may be tempted to hand the former a full season at Newcastle based on Willock’s development during his fruitful four-months on Tyneside.

One thing worth noting is that you can’t sign two players on loan from the same PL club, meaning the only way to get both would be a permanent deal for Willock and a season-long loan for Saliba.

  1. Why would anyone (Ajer) want to go to Norwich or play in the bundesliga over us in premier league.
If this is true he’s not the player for us.
