The Chronicle are reporting that Derby boss Wayne Rooney is lining up a summer loan bid for Matty Longstaff.
The young midfielder hasn’t featured since January and is believed to be ‘frustrated’ by his lack of game time under Steve Bruce – especially when he eventually signed a new deal last year after being promised a shot at first-team football.
Now, The Chronicle’s Mark Douglas has revealed that Championship strugglers Derby County are keen to bring the 21-year-old to Pride Park for the 2021/22 season.
That said, he reports that their interest has left Steve Bruce with a ‘big decision’ to make, with the NUFC boss unsure of whether to loan him out or hand him a chance to impress over pre-season.
Considering his total lack of game time over the past year and the number of options currently ahead of him in the midfield pecking order, I believe this is a move that would benefit him so much more than the odd game here and there.
His brother Sean came back looking a new man after a successful spell at Blackpool several years back, so perhaps his younger sibling can get away from home comforts, leave temporarily for the sake of his development and come back a player capable of playing regularly – if Bruce lets him leave, that is…

I think Derby would be a great loan move for Matty.
Regularly football & working with Rooney he’d definitely learn & develop imo.
