According to reports in Wales, Newcastle are on of three Premier League clubs showing interest in Swansea City star Matt Grimes.
The Swansea Independent – along with others – claim that ourselves and Southampton are keen and willing to pay his £8m asking price, while West Ham have also been linked this morning.
Grimes is a former England U21 international and the current Swans skipper, having played a vital role in their run to the 2020/21 play-off final – which ultimately ended in defeat at the hands of Brentford.
The 25-year-old, who can play as a deep-lying central midfielder or in a more advanced role, bagged 5 goals and 4 assists in 51 appearances last season, featuring in all but two of their games over the last campaign.
If our interest proves to be genuine, it’ll be interesting to see if former Swansea loanee Freddie Woodman could be used as bait – especially when the Championship side seem so eager to have him back on yet another season-long loan.
