Some bold claims have emerged from Kevin Campbell this week, with the Sky Sports pundit claiming he’s been told Kristoffer Ajer WILL sign for Newcastle United this summer.
How in the know the former Arsenal and Everton striker may be is anyone’s guess, however he’s named the Celtic star’s switch to St James’ Park as a deal that “is going to happen”.
He states that, from what he’s been told, the 6ft 5′ centre-back has been lured in by our interest over the past six months and “has made his intensions quite clear”.
Here’s what he’s had to say about the big Norwegian’s future:
“That is going to happen.
“The lure of Newcastle, who are a big club, is going to be a bit too strong I think.
“Ajer, like the majority of players out there, wants to play in the Premier League. It is a big draw.
“I am pretty sure that one is going to happen.
“From what I hear from people in the game, he has made his intentions quite clear.”
Ajer has been the one player regularly tipped to arrive on Tyneside since the 2020/21 season ended.
The Mirror reported the weekend before last that a £6m deal had been agreed, while the Daily Record stated earlier this week that we were leading the race to sign the 23-year-old.
The player himself has also been quoted saying “something might possibly happen this summer” when speaking to the press recently, with him set to leave the SPL giants now he’s entering the final 12 months of his deal in Scotland.
I won’t be taking Campbell’s word for it as this is Newcastle United at the end of the day – a club who have Lee Charnley dealing with every-changing negotiations – but it does feel like he could well sign at St James’ Park this summer.
