According to Sky Sports, Watford are close to signing Danny Rose on a free transfer.
The left-back was brought to St James’ Park by Steve Bruce last January, however his loan spell on Tyneside was a forgettable one and he returned to Spurs this time last year.
He’s now been released by Tottenham and is currently a free agent, handing newly promoted Watford the opportunity to offer him a Premier League lifeline to keep him in and around London.
Here’s what Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has said this lunchtime, confirming the 30-year-old’s move to Vicarage Road is now seen as ‘when, not if’:
Rose hasn’t played a top flight game for almost 12 months now, with his only appearances across the 2020/21 season coming in the Premier League 2 after being cast aside by former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.
His experience may appeal to Watford following promotion, however he did look way below his best during his six-month stint at Newcastle.
Ironically, his arrival at Vicarage Road could see him replace Achraf Lazaar – a player who may be released this summer after signing a short-term deal with them earlier this year.
