Newcastle set to make move for Valencia defender – Player ‘ready’ to leave – Report

According to reports in Spain, Newcastle United are lining up a move for Valencia centre-back Mouctar Diakhaby.

This comes from Spanish publication AS, who report that we are ready to up our interest in the French defender – but will face competition from Leicester City.

The piece also claims that the 24-year-old is ‘ready’ to leave the La Liga giants and is eager to complete a summer move to the Premier League.

AS do state that a return to France for the former Lyon star could yet be on the cards, however it seems he is eager to explore his options in England and that Valencia will not stand in his way as they prepare for a sale.

Diakhaby adds to the growing list of central defenders who’ve been linked with a potential move to St James’ Park, with the likes of Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer and Liverpool’s Nat Phillips also said to be on Steve Bruce’s radar.

The 6ft 3′ centre-back has four goals in 94 games for Valencia – who finished 13th in the 2020/21 La Liga table – and has represented France at U19, U20 and U21 level.
