Rafa Benitez now ‘on the brink’ of sealing surprise Premier League return – Report

Some Wednesday night ‘breaking news’ from talkSPORT claims that Rafa Benitez is now ‘on the brink’ of becoming the new Everton boss.

Jim White claims the Spaniard has held another round of talks with Blues owner Farhad Moshiri, and it looks like he’s impressed!

This comes after Carlo Ancelotti’s sudden exit earlier this month – seeing him return to former club Real Madrid – and would see the Spaniard return to Premier League management for the first time since he left Newcastle United for China back in 2019.

It had been reported just a few days ago that ex-Wolves boss Nuno Espírito Santo was closing in on the job at Goodison Park, however talkSPORT now claim that Rafa’s arrival is edging closer and closer:

Many believe this would be a ‘surprise’ move given his Liverpool ties, however it is also an offer that would keep him alongside family on Merseyside, not to mention the fact Everton are an ambitious club with financial muscle – giving him a project that could see the Toffees compete with the ‘big six’.

Let’s just hope this isn’t a sign that the ongoing Saudi takeover saga is destined to end in defeat, with a recent report suggesting that the 61-year-old was waiting on the Newcastle United job should new owners arrive.
