Sky Sports have revealed that FIVE Premier League clubs have spoken to the representatives of Spartak Moscow star Alex Kral.
Although West Ham are the only side named in the report, there’s plenty to suggest Newcastle United could be one of the clubs to have shown interest in the Czech Republic workhorse.
Aside from the fact we will be in the market for at least one midfielder this summer – especially if Joe Willock doesn’t re-sign – there’s been a host of reports over the past 18 months crediting us with an interest in the 23-year-old.
He was first linked back in November 2019, with Czech outlet Sport.cz confirming that we had scouts watching him midway through the 2019/20 season. Those links were then backed up by The Athletic last January, with Chris Waugh revealing that Kral had came up in recruitment meetings as the sort of ‘box-to-box’ midfielder Newcastle require.
Over a year later, Sky Sports claim five Premier League clubs are in talks with his people about a potential summer move. Are we one of them? Based on previous reports and the sort of midfielder Steve Bruce is crying out for, I would like to bet we are.
West Ham appear to be favourites to sign him, having already recruited two Czech stars in Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal, however he would almost certainly get more game time on Tyneside.
I watched him for the first time in the Czech’s 2-0 win over Scotland at Euro 2020 earlier this week and he impressed, showing an impressive engine, an ability to carry the ball forward and real tenacity in his defensive work.
With him valued at around £9m, a good age at 23 and the exact sort of midfielder we’ve lacked for a few seasons now, I’m hoping we are one of the five showing serious interest.
