African star ‘could join Newcastle for free’ after scoring 35 goals in past two seasons – Reports

According to reports in his homeland, Andre Ayew is now being lined up for a summer move to St James’ Park.

Both Ghana Soccernet and African outlet YEN.com claim we are looking to sign the experienced attacker on a free transfer, with him available on a Bosman after he decided to leave Swansea following their play-off final defeat to Brentford last month.

YEN report that he has several offers but ‘could join the Magpies on a free’, while Ghana Soccernet – the countries leading outlet – state we are ‘willing to strike a deal’ with the former Marseille and West Ham man.

The Ghana captain is entering the twilight years of his career, however his past two seasons in the Championship have been impressive, with him bagging 35 goals and 11 assists across 2019/20 to 2020/21.

He used to operate as a winger – being able to operate down either flank – but has developed into more of a second striker in recent years.

Would this be a deal that excites NUFC fans? Not really, but he’s experienced, captains his national side, has been one of the Championships top scoring attackers in recent seasons and has 33 goal involvements in 89 Premier League appearances.

If he’s a potential Andy Carroll or Christian Atsu replacement and his wages aren’t massive, this would be a decent signing.

  1. I’m glad you reported this, it’s definitely got to be a wind up. Has 31 Championship goals in 2 seasons where as Gayle has 35 but both are great at Championship level but not at Premier. We need to be aiming higher.

35 in all competitions across the two seasons.

Ayew has often played at a higher level than Gayle, not to mention the fact he’s only recently become more of a second striker, not a winger, where as Gayle has always been an out and out striker.
