Rafa Benitez U-turn as ‘imminent’ move to Everton is now OFF – Report

According to talkSPORT, Rafa Benitez’s proposed move to Everton is now OFF.

They were the first to break news of the previously ‘imminent’ switch last Wednesday, however they now reveal that the contract offer he was expecting to receive in recent days has not arrived.

TalkSPORT claim this is due to the fact Blues owner Farhad Moshiri has listened to fan protests, with Toffees fans not only making their feelings clear on social media – mainly due to his Liverpool links – but covering the outside of Goodison Park with anti-Benitez banners.

It seems they have now retracted their interest and U-turned on a contract offer the Spaniard was fully expecting to receive, leaving them in limbo now former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is back in talks with Tottenham.

Personally, I’ve found some of the reactions from Everton fans to be over the top and out of order – he may have managed Liverpool, but this is a man who has done wonders for Merseyside and won 13 trophies to Everton’s zero over the past 20 years.

It’s to be expected that some are uneasy with his Liverpool links – and some may feel his management career has gone stale in recent years – however I’m not sure a club who have finished 10th and 12th over the past two seasons can believe they are better than Rafa Benitez.

A blow for Benitez, who would’ve seen this as a near perfect return to the Premier League given his family live in the area, yet it may be a blessing in disguise if he was in for a barrage of abuse.

  1. Sit tight rafa. We’ll welcome you back to St James’s Park when this rigmarole of a takeover sagas done with. Seriously though, I don’t understand how the toffees can be so anti benitez. With their backing he can do well. Ashley should have and we may have kept him.
