Double blow for NUFC as new reports claim Norwich are closing in on TWO Toon targets

The Northern Echo are reporting that despite interest from Newcastle United, Norwich City look set to seal the signing of top Chelsea talent Billy Gilmour – and it seems fellow Toon target Kristoffer Ajer could join him.

The report states that we made our interest in the midfielder known straight after the 2020/21 season ended, while the BBC confirmed just yesterday that he was in talks with Blues chiefs over a potential Premier League loan move.

However, they claim we look set to miss out on the 20-year-old deemed one of the most exciting young talents in the top flight, stating that Thomas Tuchel believes Gilmour will get regular game time at Carrow Road and be played in his correct position week in, week out by fellow German Daniel Farke.

Elsewhere, Norwich editor Paddy Davitt claims that a move for Celtic star Kristoffer Ajer is ‘well down the track’ – another potential blow for Newcastle United given The Athletic named him as our top defensive target just a few days ago:

Norwich may have cashed in on Emi Buendia, however it seems they are wasting no time using the £35m gained to strengthen their side.

They announced the £9.4m signing of highly-rated winger Milot Rashica on Tuesday, brought Angus Gunn back to the club yesterday and could now beat us to deals for Gilmour and Ajer.

Is the arbitration hearing hanging over the Saudi takeover saga stopping us from doing any deals, or are we really being outmuscled by newly promoted sides in the transfer market?

Either way, it’s a concern to see Premier League rivals not only strengthening but looking set to beat us to a host of summer targets.
