Newcastle miss out on TWO transfer targets & ex-Mag in talks with Premier League club – Report

The Athletic have confirmed that Billy Gilmour is set to undergo a medical at Norwich City later this week – despite interest from Newcastle United.

Michael Bailey – their man covering events at Carrow Road – claims that the Chelsea midfielder is all set to join the Canaries on a season long loan once he’s out of self-isolation.

Elsewhere, The Athletic have revealed that Newcastle United have been showing interest in highly-rated Stade Brest defender Romain Perraud.

However, their correspondent at Southampton reports that the Saints have won the race to sign the left-back, fighting off competition from ourselves, Leeds and West Ham to land the 23-year-old Frenchman.

The same report also reveals that Ralph Hasenhuttl is an admirer of Adam Armstrong and looking to bring the former Newcastle striker to St Mary’s this summer.

The Athletic insist that a deal between Southampton and Blackburn is still ‘some way off’ from being agreed, but it seems they are one of several Premier League clubs eyeing the 24-year-old following his 29-goal season in the second tier.

It’s early days as far as this summer’s transfer window is concerned, but it does feel like we’re sitting back and watching others strengthen while we wait to see what happens with the ongoing Saudi takeover saga.
