Watch Schar’s moment of class & Mbabu’s superb assist as the Swiss stun France at Euro 2020

It was some night at Euro 2020 – and Fabian Schar and former Mag Kevin Mbabu ended up in the thick of it.

The tie looked all but over when Paul Pogab curled in a 25-yard screamer to make it 3-1, but the Swiss battled back with two late goals to take the tie to extra time – with their second being superbly set up by Mbabu himself.

Schar entered the game in extra time and was the second Switzerland player to step up for a spot kick when the match went to penalties.

As he did at Fulham on the final day of the 2020/21 season, he looked cool as a cucumber as he nonchalantly converted his penalty past Hugo Lloris – and was part of the wild celebrations just a few minutes later as Switzerland won the shoot-out 5-4 to book their place in the quarter finals against Spain.

Watch both Schar’s penalty and Mbabu’s brilliant assist below, with the latter reminding NUFC fans that Rafa Benitez was wrong to give up on him back in 2017:

Interestingly, Schar was dropped by Switzerland ahead of the game – which is quite a shock given he has been a regular in the national side over the past eight years!

As for Mbabu, his impressive cameo could put him in contention for their quarter final clash with Spain.

A big well done to both. Hopefully fellow Mag Emil Krafth joins them in the next round later on when Sweden take on Ukraine!
