Newcastle announce official pre-season plans – 5 games in 13 days & new date for the diary

Newcastle United have announced yet another pre-season friendly set to take place next month – making it FIVE in total that have now been confirmed by the club.

The latest match booked in for Bruce’s side sees us travel to take on League One side Doncaster Rovers, with the match set to be played at 7pm on Friday 23rd July at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Here’s the full pre-season schedule, as things stand, featuring games against York City, Harrogate Town, Rotherham United and Burton Albion between 18th-30th July:

  • 18th July – York City (A) and Harrogate Town (A) – 2pm – *First-team squads split*
  • 23rd July – Doncaster Rovers (A) – 7pm – Keepmoat Stadium
  • 27th July – Rotherham United (A) – 7pm – AESSEAL New York Stadium
  • 30th July – Burton Albion (A) – 7.45pm – Pirelli Stadium

Here’s a snippet from the club’s official statement, confirming that the attendance for our first pre-season friendly -a 2pm trip to York on July 18th – has been capped at 2,000 supporters and restricted to home fans only:

The Magpies will travel to the Keepmoat Stadium on Friday, 23rd July for a 7pm (BST) kick-off.

Newcastle have already announced that they will split the first team squad for two games in one day, at York City and Harrogate Town, on Sunday, 18th July while they will face Rotherham United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Tuesday, 27th July and Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on Friday, 30th July.

This week it was confirmed that the attendance for the York game will be capped to 2,000, with home fans only. Ticketing information the other friendlies – along with details of further pre-season matches – will be confirmed on nufc.co.uk in due course.

Regarding the last line, which hints at further friendlies being announced in ‘due course’, there has been talk of a potential trip to Anfield, while the club also tends to end pre-season with a home game at St James’ Park the weekend before the new season starts.
