6 games now confirmed as NUFC announce St James’ Park friendly vs Premier League side

Newcastle United have confirmed that our final pre-season friendly of the summer will see us take on Norwich City at St James’ Park on Saturday 7th August.

The 2pm kick off against the newly promoted side will see former Mags Tim Krul and Grant Hanley return to Tyneside, with the game coming just a week before our first game of the 2021/22 season – a home clash with West Ham on Sunday 15th August.

Our final friendly before the Premier League season kicks off has tended to be against a side from one of Europe’s top five leagues – we’ve faced the likes of Saint-Etienne, Hellas Verona and Augsburg in recent years – however it seems travel restrictions has seen us select opponents closer to home.

This is the sixth pre-season clash that has now been announced by the club. See our full schedule, as things stand, below:

  • 18th July – York City (A) and Harrogate Town (A) – 2pm – *First-team squads split*
  • 23rd July – Doncaster Rovers (A) – 7pm – Keepmoat Stadium
  • 27th July – Rotherham United (A) – 7pm – AESSEAL New York Stadium
  • 30th July – Burton Albion (A) – 7.45pm – Pirelli Stadium
  • 7th August – Norwich City (H) – 2pm – St James’ Park.

Here’s a snippet from the club’s official site following confirmation of our clash with the Canaries:

Newcastle United will face Premier League new boys Norwich City in a pre-season friendly ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Magpies will welcome Daniel Farke’s newly-promoted side to St. James’ Park on Saturday, 7th August, with kick-off set for 2pm.

The game takes place the weekend before United entertain West Ham United in their opening Premier League game on Sunday, 14th July (2pm kick-off).

And the clash with Farke’s side is the first home friendly confirmed by Newcastle prior to the start of the new season, with trips to York City, Harrogate Town, Doncaster Rovers, Rotherham United and Burton Albion already in the diary for July.

Ticket details for the visit of the Canaries, as well as Steve Bruce’s men’s other pre-season friendlies, will be confirmed in due course.
