Newcastle hand trial to free agent defender released by Premier League club – Report

Back in May, AllNigeriaSoccer.com revealed that young defender Udoka Chima had been invited to train with Newcastle United.

Six weeks on, the same outlet has today revealed that the 19-year-old has secured a trial on Tyneside – handing him the chance to earn a contract at the club should he impress.

The centre-back has previously been on the books at Burnley, however he has been without a club over the past year after being released by the Clarets at the end of the 2019/20 season.

We are not the only club looking to check him out, however, with All Nigeria Soccer stating that he’ll spend a week on trial at Championship side Coventry City next week and a spell with Portuguese club SC Braga, too.

So, it looks like the club are lining up another potential signing at U23 level, having announced the signings of Remi Savage, Charlie Wiggett and Cameron Ferguson just yesterday.

Considering Ferguson – son of Duncan – landed a pro deal at the club after impressing on trial, it’ll be interesting to see how Chima gets on and where he ends up ahead of the 2021/22 season.
