A heartbreaking night at Euro 2020 for Swiss star Fabian Schar, with the Newcastle United defender missing a crucial penalty in their quarter final defeat to Spain.
After going a goal down just eight minutes in, Switzerland took the game to extra-time after a second-half equaliser from Xherdan Shaqiri made it 1-1.
Schar and former Mag Kevin Mbabu then came on after the 90 and helped a 10-man Swiss side take the game to spot kicks, however the 29-year-old centre-back was the second to step up for his country and saw his tame effort saved by Unai Simon.
More misses then followed and Spain won the shootout 3-1, sending them through to face one of Italy or Belgium in the semi finals of Euro 2020.

Here’s a reminder of what Schar had to say ahead of tonight’s quarter final:
“It’s our first time in the quarter-finals, and of course i’m proud to be a player of Newcastle in the quarter-finals.
“I think it’s also nice for the club, for the fans, because of part of this family as well.”
The last Newcastle United player standing, but a valiant effort from the Swiss – who almost knocked out Spain after overcoming France in the last 16.
