New Joe Willock claims arrive from Sky Sports – Good & bad news for Newcastle United?

Sky Sports News have shared an update on Joe Willock’s future – not that it’s particularly helpful for us Newcastle United fans.

In a lunchtime report from Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth, he reveals that Willock is one of three players Arsenal are ‘listening to offers’ for, however it seems Mikel Arteta may be having second thoughts about allowing the former NUFC loanee to leave.

Sheth states that the 21-year-old’s displays on Tyneside have given Arteta’ food for thought’, suggesting he could yet remain at The Emirates this summer.

Here’s what he’s had to say in the last few moments:

“One other line to bring you concerns Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson.

“We think, Arsenal are listening to offers for all three of those players…all of their contracts run out in 2023.

“The one player that may have a future at Arsenal, though, is Joe Willock.

“His performances for Newcastle United on loan last season has given Mikel Arteta food for thought.

“He’s one that they’re thinking about. You remember he scored in the six consecutive games at the back end of last season.

“So Reiss Nelson and Maitland-Niles we think they’ll listen to offers for. Joe Willock they’re thinking about.”

So, it’s promising in one sense that Arsenal have been ‘listening to offers’ for Willock – suggesting they could be tempted to sell if a decent bid arrived – however it seems like our lack of activity in the transfer market is giving them time to potential change their minds.

Perhaps this is another tactic to try and create a bidding war or whip up interest in fear of missing out, but it would be a real blow to our summer transfer hopes if Arteta really is planning to keep him at the club.
