Newcastle ‘preparing an offer’ for highly-rated Schalke striker – Report

According to reports in Germany, Newcastle United are about to step up their interest in Schalke striker Matthew Hoppe.

This comes via an ‘exclusive’ from 90min.de, who claim that we are ‘preparing an offer’ for the highly-rated American who arrived at the club back in 2019.

Hoppe, 20, enjoyed a breakthrough year in the Bundesliga last season, bagging six goals and an assist in 22 league appearances.

Should this latest transfer rumour prove to be true, it seems we aren’t the only Premier League club in the mix, with 90.min.de stating that Wolves, Southampton and Spurs are also keen on the young forward.

With Schalke suffering relegation from the German top flight this season, they look set to cash in on the 6ft 3′ striker.

He’d certainly fit Mike Ashley’s transfer policy, being promising you player with real potential, however I wouldn’t back Lee Charnley to land him if there really is interest from several EPL clubs.

Here’s him in action last season, with him bagging a hat-trick against Hoffenheim back in January!
