Ex-Mag in talks with Newcastle United over surprise return to St James’ Park – Report

According to reports in Italy, Valentino Lazaro is in talks with Newcastle United over a surprise return to St James’ Park this summer.

This comes from Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim that the former NUFC loanee is ‘negotiating’ a permanent move to Tyneside – and it seems we are open to the idea.

The report states that he has ‘some admirers in Germany’, but that we are ‘considering’ bringing him back on a permanent deal.

Lazaro, 25, is expected to leave Inter Milan on a cut-price fee this summer, however another move for the Austrian would be a bizarre one given how little faith Steve Bruce showed in him during his previous spell at the club.

I feel Bruce was wrong to limit Lazaro to little more than late cameos from the bench, yet that doesn’t change the fact it would be a funny move by a manager who started him just FOUR times over the second half of the 2019/20 season.

I think he’s a talented player who’d give us a capable option either as a wing-back or wide man – a little like Jacob Murphy – but it may all come down to Inter’s asking price and the assurances we’d give him over game time, providing there is truth behind this latest link, that is.

Would you like to see Lazaro return on a permanent deal this summer?
