Club ‘rubbish’ new exit rumours & Bruce reignites interest in long-term target – Report

Newcastle United have played down rumours linking Isaac Hayden with a summer move to Southampton, according to the Shields Gazette.

Liam Kennedy claims that club sources have ‘rubbished’ a Daily Mail report stating that Southampton were in talks with the midfielder over a potential £12m deal.

It seems our alleged interest in Saints midfielder Mario Lemina hasn’t been denied – a player tipped to be part of a potential ‘swap-deal’ – however it seems Hamza Choudhury is another player Steve Bruce is looking at.

The Shields Gazette reveal that we remain interested in signing the Leicester talent, with it well documented that he was close to arriving on Tyneside back in January.

We were believed to have agreed a loan deal for the tough-tackling midfielder, however a deadline day move was scrapped at the 11th hour after Brendan Rodger failed to sign a replacement.

Six months on, a £17m move for Boubakary Soumare appears to have pushed him even further down the pecking order, opening the door for us to make a second bid.
