NUFC player left out of pre-season camp as he’s NOT in Steve Bruce’s plans for 2021/22 – Report

Freddie Woodman has been left out of the club’s Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate campus this week, according to the Shields Gazette.

Miles Starforth claims that the 24-year-old goalkeeper has been told that he is NOT in Steve Bruce’s plans ahead of the upcoming season.

He also reports that he is not involved in the York-based training camp amid interest from former loan club Swansea City and Leeds United.

The latter were credited with an interest yesterday via the Yorkshire evening post, however Football Insider are now reporting that he’s rejected a move to Elland Road as he’s not interested in sitting on the bench as their number two behind Illan Meslier.

Woodman’s situation is a tough one. In one sense, I can see why he needs a move – even if it’s another loan – due to the fact he’s still behind Martin Dubravka in the NUFC pecking order.

That said, sell him too soon and it could be another costly mistake that we live to regret in a few years time, with some feeling he will be battling Jordan Pickford for the England jersey before too long.

If true, it sums up Bruce’s laziness as a manager that he’s not even interested in seeing how he’s progressed after another impressive loan spell, not to mention the fact freezing him out only weakens our position as a seller.
