According to The Athletic, Newcastle are eyeing up a loan move for Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe.
The centre-back is a player Steve Bruce ‘knows well’, with the NUFC boss bringing the 23-year-old to Aston Villa for the 2018/29 season.
In the two seasons since, the former England U21 has managed just 14 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils – and The Athletic report that we’re ‘monitoring his situation.’
Interestingly, it’s since emerged that Man Utd WILL sanction a loan move this summer for Tuanzebe after the player has become frustrated by his lack of game time.
For me, this would be a smart move and seems realistic, too. He’s not only a talented young player who is tall, quick and the sort athletic centre-back we currently lack, but has worked with Bruce before.
You’d also like to think Steve Bruce has the contacts at Man Utd to get a deal done – especially when it’s been well documented all summer that we’re looking to sign a more youthful defender capable of adding some much needed pace to our ageing back line.
With us having two domestic loan deals to work with, I’m sure Bruce would love to be reunited with a player he described as a “fine young centre-back and is improving all the time” two years ago.
One to watch over the coming weeks, especially if Man Utd really have given him the green light to leave on loan.
Option to buy & it’s a good deal – if not, sack it off & stick with what we have
