Former Toon winger Christian Atsu has signed for Saudi Arabian outfit Al Raed on a free transfer.
The Ghanaian has been without a club since being released by NUFC when his contract expired last month, but will now head to the Middle East in pursuit of first-team football…and a heft pay day, no doubt.
Atsu played an integral role in securing promotion from the Championship under Rafa Benitez in 2016/17.
However, he has found game time difficult to come by since our return to the top flight, and was without a squad number for the duration of last season.
While on Tyneside, he made 86 appearances, played under three different managers, and chipped in with three goals.
He wasn’t the best, but he gave his all, helped us get back in the big time and did a lot of good work in the community during his five years in the North East.
