Sky Sports ‘breaking news’ confirms NUFC have missed out on another target as player passes medical

Newcastle United target Kristoffer Ajer has moved a step closer to joining Brentford in the last few moments, with Sky Sports confirming he’s just passed a medical at the West London club.

He’s not the only centre-back we’ve missed out on either, with Wolves talent Dion Sanderson penning a new deal at Molineux before securing a loan move to Birmingham City.

The former Sunderland loanee would’ve been one for the future, but the fact we had a £1m bid rejected for the 21-year-old and were then outmuscled by newly promoted Brentford over a deal for Ajer speaks volumes about our pitiful attempts to strengthen this summer.

Here’s what Sky Sports have released this afternoon, confirming the latter is now on the brink of a £13.5m move to Brentford:

Back in May it was reported that we had agreed a deal to sign the ball-playing Norwegian, but fast forward two months and we’ve watched on while a potential relegation rival beat us to a deal.

With the takeover now a non-starter until arbitration resumes in 2022 and no signings made with less than four weeks to go until the new season kicks off, it’s time for Mike Ashley to repair at least some of the damage with a few new arrivals.

Time to re-sign Willock – even if it’s on loan – bring in a mobile centre-back who is comfortable on the ball and a striker capable of filling in for Wilson when needed.

  1. Suppose it’s easy to dog a club that cannot defend itself over this transfer, never any evidence he was in talks with us or we bid for him.

More Toon bashing from Olly Hawkins.

The Athletic, The Chronicle, The Mail and others all said he was not only a target but Bruce’s preferred target at CB, so excuse me for believing he was someone we wanted but refused to pay up for… 🙄

  3. This latest humiliation in 14 years of the oaf Ashley’ disgraceful ownership of our club, surely brings together in one sentence how far this club has dropped.

Oh God is that not the worst feeling of despair that he has overseen in his terrible tenure 😥 ?
