Journalist makes bold new transfer prediction as he names deal he thinks “will happen”

The Chronicle’s Mark Douglas has stuck his neck on the line and predicted that Joe Willock will be back at Newcastle United for the start of the 2021/22 season.

The Arsenal midfielder’s future has been up in the air ever since his loan spell on Tyneside came to an end in May, but Steve Bruce remains keen on resigning the 21-year-old – despite admitting that any decision lies firmly in Mikel Arteta’s hands.

The Gunners boss recently said that Willock is very much part of his plans in North London, but has frequently left the door open for a move away.

He has also strengthened his midfield this week with the signing of Sambi Lokonga – a deal that could move Willock further down the pecking order – and has seen Emile Smith-Rowe sign a new long-term contract, too.

Mark Douglas told The Chronicle’s Everything is Black and White podcast that he believes another loan move will be finalised before the start of the new season, also stating that an ‘obligation to buy’ might also be included in any deal.

  1. Absolute garbage.

If his performance last season did anything , it gave Willock more options.

If he goes out on loan he’ll go closer to home and with a club that struggles less. He would also want a deal where he gets more game time and fewer cameos as an “impact” sub.

I’d guess Brentford are in looking at him.
