Newcastle striker ‘close’ to joining new club & returning home after 5 years on Tyneside – Report

Elias Sorenson is on the verge of joining Danish outfit Esbjerg, according to reports in Denmark.

The 21-year-old Toon youngster is yet to make an appearance for the first-team despite being one of the most talked about academy products in recent times.

He has seen two EFL loan spells cut short due to lack of playing time and now looks set to return to his home country, with this coming after his spell with Dutch second tier side Almere last season.

The Danish U21 international has just one year left on his current deal and has barely kicked a ball in his professional career, so we won’t be receiving anything substantial when he does head through the St James’ Park exit door.

He has an impressive record for our U23 side but has seen opportunities tough to come by, so a move away is best for both parties now he’s no longer a teenager.

Sorensen even has a hybrid Danish/Geordie accent when speaking English, an indictment of just how long he has been here without ever really being given a chance.

Should his move be finalised and he decides to move on, we wish him all the best!
