Crystal Palace set to take summer spending to £48m before beating NUFC to loan deal – Report

For all the talk of COVID crippling transfer budgets up and down the country this summer, it doesn’t seem to be having any impact on little old Crystal Palace.

Following the appointment of Patrick Vieira, they’ve signed Chelsea centre-back Marc Guehi for £20m, Championship star Michael Olise in a bargain deal worth £8m and look set to announce the signing of another £20m defender in Joachim Andersen – the Denmark international who impressed during a loan spell at Fulham last season.

Not only that, it now looks like they’ll beat us to a deal for Connor Gallagher.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, The Eagles are ‘confident’ of completing a loan deal for the Chelsea talent this week.

The midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to St James’ Park in recent weeks, with The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards revealing earlier this month that Steve Bruce was looking to bring the England U21 star to Tyneside after trying and failing to sign him last summer.

However, new reports suggest he’s likely to arrive at Selhurst Park instead – news that would come as yet another transfer blow after we saw fellow target Mario Lemina pick Nice over Newcastle just last week.

Sadly, Palace look a club on the up with fresh ideas and money to spend, meanwhile we continue to hide behind a stalled Saudi takeover and this ‘tiny budget’ handed to Bruce – despite the fact we’ve spent just two of the last 28 years out of the top flight…

Make of that what you will!
