New report names SIX midfielders on NUFC’s wishlist as Steve Bruce eyes double deal

The Athletic have revealed SIX midfielders currently being looked at by Newcastle United, with the club looking to add a couple of fresh options to our engine room this summer.

The piece names Joe Willock (Arsenal), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Ross Barkley (Chelsea), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal), Hamza Chowdhury (Leicester) and Jens-Lys Cajuste (FC Midtjylland) as players currently on our shortlist.

The six players – five of whom are in the Premier League – would likely be loan signings due to our limited budget, although a permanent bid for Swedish talent Cajuste has been talked up.

Steve Bruce commented last week about the need to strengthen in midfield, stating that we are “very short” in that area now Willock is back at Arsenal and Jonjo Shelvey is struggling with another injury.

While Willock remains a priority, it is thought that a move for the Arsenal man would not rule out signing one of the others, with Chris Waugh’s piece highlighting how we are in the hunt for TWO midfielders in the window – ideally the former NUFC loanee PLUS a ‘dynamic enforcer’:

With less than three weeks before the start of the new season, NUFC need to act fast and get their ship in order to give us the best possible chance of having a decent start.

Hopefully we can get a deal for Willock wrapped up ASAP – a move that could be the catalyst to more incoming business if and when we finally get an answer from Arsenal!

Who would you like to see us look at in our search for added dynamism in the middle of the park?
